No longer bewitched...

I think I'm being set free from the evil spell I was under. Let's hope so. I've been working on this song for a few weeks now, so I thought I'd post it and see if anyone had any thoughts on it. Singing the words "I am clean" felt all wrong and weird at first--I'd been so used to singing/thinking about how dirty and evil I am (or at least I was being told that I still am). I forgot grace. I think the reason why God has allowed me to go through so much dealing with legalism in my life is because he wants me to be a loud voice proclaiming and singing his grace. I could never write songs before I understood and experienced grace, and my songs always dry up when I fall back into slavery under the law. Hopefully we'll meet some people who can help us learn to live according to the Spirit instead of the flesh. That's the kind of church I'm longing for. Anyway, here are the words to my song:

verse 1

I will rest in your light
No need to hide, no need for night
I am clean
Boldly stand at your throne
Dressed in your robes
One of your own
I am clean, I am clean, I am clean

chorus

There's no more condemnation
Washed in your blood
I sing of your salvation
Wonderful God
Freely I bow and bless your name

verse 2

I was born into chains
You took my blame
You bore my shame
I am free
Once an object of wrath
Your dying breath
Made me your friend
I am free, I am free, I am free

repeat chorus

I have a really terrible recording if anyone really wants to hear it, but I'm not posting it here. It would be too embarassing even if I knew how! My kids have destroyed all my microphones and I'm reduced to the mp3 player to record anything, not that I really need to record anything as I've nowhere to submit songs to anymore...

Julie -

I'd record your songs for you anytime! And, I'll be glad to help you post them here too. No more excuses :) Besides - it would be a good excuse to have you and Aaron over one night...

The content and rhythmic flow of the chorus is great -

There's no more condemnation
Washed in your blood
I sing of your salvation
Wonderful God
Freely I bow and bless your name

Would love to hear the melody - bryan AT deitrichweb DOT com
