Always Enough by Rolland and Heidi Baker

I just finished reading this a couple of days ago and wanted to recommend it. I have always loved biography/testimony type books so it's not a surprise that I liked this one. We can learn so much if we are humble enough to probe the lives of other believers, both living and dead, especially when we might differ in backgrounds and doctrinal positions.

This is definitely from a charismatic perspective and will stretch you. Here's a quote from Rolland in the intro that got me excited:

"I always wanted to believe and live the Sermon on the Mount, but I was usually told that it did not mean all that I thought it meant and that I needed to be practical. I would read the Scriptures longingly, trying to imagine how wonderful it would be not to worry about anything, safe and secure in the presence of Jesus all the time. Miracles would be normal. Love would be natural. We could always give and never lose. We could be lied to, cheated and stolen from, and yet we would always come out ahead. We would never have to take advantage of anyone or have any motive but to bless other people. Rather than always making contingency plans in case Jesus didn't do anything, we could count on Him continually. We, our lives and all that we preach and provide would not be for sale, but would be given freely, just as we have received freely. Our hearts would be carefree in the love of our Father in heaven, who always knows what we need, and we could get on with the glorious business of seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness. There would always be enough! In time I realized that the worst possible fate would be to miss all of this."

The book alternates between Rolland and Heidi's account of their life leading up to ministry in Mozambique and then great testimonies of God's work in Mozambique, even amid terrible flooding and poverty. There are excerpts from their journals and great pictures as well. More can be learned about their ministry at their website Iris Ministries Inc. You can also listen to Rolland and Heidi speaking (scroll down to the bottom to find them). I'm sure there are other resources available as well if you hunt around a bit.

I also just noticed a brand new book by Heidi and Rolland, "Expecting Miracles: True Stories of Gods Supernatural Power and How You Can Experience It" so be sure to check it out! I wish it had been there a couple of weeks ago when I ordered the other one...oh well. I'm sure I will have a good excuse to order some more books sometime soon hehe.

These two are are great couple with a powerful ministry. I love your quote. Rather than something to laugh at (as anonymous seems to think), this is something to hunger after! Sermon on the Mount is a description of life in God's Kingdom here and now! What a challenge, what a glorious calling we have.

Thank you so much for sharing this.
